60 at 60 for Soldiers

By Pete

60 at 60 under 12 hours for Soldier On

I'm holding a fundraiser to raise much needed funds for veteran support organisation, Soldier On.

For those who don't know. I'm a current serving member of 42yrs in the Army and currently the RSM of 2/17 Royal New South Wales Regiment. I was a member of the 1st Battalion (1 RAR)1981 -1987. I was a Pysical Training Instructor from 1987 until 2001 where I went regimental as Company Sergeant Major 1 Health Support Battalion. In 1984 in 1RAR we did an 80km advance to contact affectionately known as "death march 84" . I was in Signals Platoon (95A) carrying an F1 radio. Prior to that March and in 1983, I was in Mortar Pl and we marched 60km out of High Range back to Laverack Barracks where the 1RAR Band greeted us at the 3 Brigade gate to bring us home back to the Battalion. Great days ... Great memories...

Now in 2022 and to commemorate my 60th birthday (10 December), I intend to pack march in Patrol Order with 40 kg and Body Armour for 60 km. My intention is to do this in under 14 hours but my goal is to do it in under 12.Β

The last time I did 60km I was 23. This time I'm inspired by the nostalgia of my 1RAR days and two Army people, the legendary Jimmy Hoile (PTI) who ran 60 km for his 60th birthday and an old friend Eva Clarke who has a world record for the fastest marathon with 40 kilos on her back. So I'm combining these two inspiring people's efforts by Pack Marching 60 km with 40 kilos. Please help me raise funds for this most worthy cause who help soldiers and veterans who are in need.Β

I will be doing this on Sunday 27 November. If you'd love to join me on my walk or do your own walk in your city please contact me.

So, I'd love if you could make a donation to Soldier On today so our current serving and ex-serving personnel and their families can receive vital support services to enable them to thrive.

Thank you!

WO1 Peter SheehyΒ
