Kokoda Trail? Challenge Accepted...

My Activity Tracking

My target 96 kms

I'm challenging myself to help prevent veteran suicide.

So, I'd love if you could make a donation to Soldier On today so our veterans and their families can receive vital support services to enable them to thrive.

Thank you!

Kokoda Trail? Challenge Accepted...

After 8 months of training, along with a few mates, I will be hiking along the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea. My reasons for taking on the hike are varied.
I have held an interest in our military history since I was 10 yrs old. In fact Judy's Grandpa, CPL Fred Jury (SX14214) served with the 2/1 Anti Aircraft Regiment during WWII. He spent time in the Middle East, Australia and saw the war out with the regiments' Field Ambulance Unit taking care of wounded soldiers (from Kokoda) in Pt Moresby. Fred later extended his service after the war helping rehabilitate mistreated and malnutritioned Aussie soldiers returning from PoW camps from throughout Asia.
Skip a generation and our son Nathan is now serving with the Royal Aust. Air Force.
So why am I hiking? The best answer I can come up with is I want to honour the brave men who lived and fought on the same track - although my experience will be much more sedate! Who knows, I may even return with cadets under my charge to help keep the memory of Kokoda alive!
For now, your gift and support is an open invitation to support our modern day soldiers and veterans and their families through health, employment, learning, participation, and social connection.

My Updates

Reality is setting in!

Saturday 13th Apr
Only one day left of taking the following for granted:
1. Drinking clean water,
2. Taking a shower,
3. Sitting on a couch/ lying down on a bed with a matress,
4. Internet
5. Being with my wife, sons and friends.
Time to build 'that' bridge and get over it - real quick!

Thank you to my Sponsors
