Welcome to my Frontline Safari fundraising page
2021 Frontline Safari Take 2... this has been a long time coming.
Originally slated for August 2021, COVID-19 and resulting border restrictions forced its postponement. But we're back on in 2022.
In May this year I, along with a few fellow middle aged, scooter riding, latte (or long black) drinking city folk, will be embarking on an epic adventure. We'll be riding across the Simpson Desert as part of an organised fundraising adventure ride - The Frontline Safari. And it is all in support of Soldier On, a fantastic charity that is obviously close to my heart.
The original mid-2021 timing seemed perfect as it coincided with the 30th anniversary of my graduation from military college. Alas COVID also interrupted our reunion plans. Shout-out to all my Jan '90 to June '91 Duntroon classmates, some still serving, and huge love to the families of those no longer with us.
The new plans see us depart Birdsville QLD on 16th May, heading south to loop around the Simpson Desert, via Oodnadatta, before crossing it West to East back to Birdsville by the 21st. I'll be doing it on my trusty KTM 350 EXC-f (with long range fuel tank!). Not the most comfortable bike for adventure riding, but who am I to complain.
I'm lucky enough to be doing the ride with some great mates and will no doubt make more along the way. I won't lie - this is going to be great fun, but it is not going to be without its challenges. Apart from the obvious physical toll I'm struggling to google any decent coffee shops along the Oodnadatta track. Any recommendations welcome.
Jokes aside, your support for this most worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. If for nothing else than a hearty laugh at my expense!
