Goal to Kokoda

96km

You’ve conquered Kokoda!

I'm taking on the 96km Challenge as part of the March On with Soldier On!

I’m taking on the March On with Soldier On - 96KM Challenge to honour our past war heroes and help our modern-day veterans.

The Kokoda Track marks the course of one of the most important battles for Australians in the Second World War. The men who defended this rugged 96km track were the only line of defence protecting Australia from imminent invasion.

In doing this, I need your help with a donation so Soldier On can continue to provide vital support services to the selfless service men and women, and their families, who have done so much to serve our nation.

I am someone who has been personally affected by a family member that had from post-traumatic stress disorder from their time as a soldier in Vietnam.

Every dollar you donate to my page will go to directly to Soldier On and you will automatically receive a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you have made your donation.

So, please support me while I March On with Soldier On. Wish me luck as I set out to do my bit for our brave veterans!

My Updates

Day 28 Smashed out 14km

Sunday 28th Mar
9kms until I have conquered the length of the Kokoda Track. All downhill from here. I had a get a good slog in today with the kids so I didn't leave the last kilometres to the very last minute. Lovely day to be out on the River Torrens. So lucky that it's so close to home and we can walk to city.

Day 24 Reaches Templeton's Crossing

Thursday 25th Mar
Templeton's Crossing marks 63kms into your 96km journey to Kokoda, and is named in remembrance of Captain Sam Templeton of the 39th Battalion. It has some of the steepest and highest sections of the Kokoda Track, with thick jungle, rushing streams and frequent chilling rain. Many hard fought battles were had in these harsh terrains, and heroes like Captain Sam Templeton showed their bravery and courage to protect us. Affectionately known as "Uncle Sam", he was an inspiration to his men. He lead and encouraged his men when things got tough, and even carried the rifles of those men who were struggling as they crossed the mountains. Jack Wilkinson, a fellow soldier, noted the following in his diary in 1942: "...Two long hills to climb.  Missed out on tea as I was with last of the troops.  Had a job to get some of them to make it.. ‘Uncle Sam’ came back and helped me about half way up the last hill.  I was carrying four rifles and three packs and had doubts about making it myself.  But ‘Uncle Sam’ insisted on carrying all my gear as well as that of others. "

Day 17 West Lakes Walks

Wednesday 17th Mar
So special to spot these starfish on my walk this evening around West Lakes. What great weather we had.

Day 11 I have virtually reached Menari

Friday 12th Mar
I've walked 34.8km now which is equivalent to the village of Menari on the Kokoda track. It was here that Lt Colonel Ralph Honners made a speech to the 39th battalion in 1942. This extract I think is fitting to Soldier On: "You have seen things in this place that no man should witness. Some of these things you must forget."

Day 7 Colour Frenzy

Sunday 7th Mar

Day 3

Wednesday 3rd Mar
Enjoying my 5km lunch break walks at Fitness Factory. Look at that inspiring view! 81km to go!
