As many of my friends and colleagues know I never shy away from a challenge or a worthy cause. This time, I’ve decided to test myself by crossing the Simpson desert on a motorcycle to raise money for former Australian defence force veterans and their families, through ‘Soldier On’.

These days many of us are aware of the importance of our mental health. Post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression can be common experiences for our military personnel, especially when their service ends. Research in 2021 found suicide rates are significantly higher for veterans with more than 1200 Australian Defence Force personnel committing suicide in the past two decades. My father was a member of the French Foreign Legion before immigrating to Australia, having earned himself a Croix de Guerre for his acts of heroism during combat. He too has had his struggles.

Soldier On supports Australian veterans and their families.
